Two new patterns are available today as part of the Appalachian Knits collection designed by Jennifer Sadler and myself. We were thrilled to finally partner up with Fern Fiber – a yarn company local to Asheville, run by two great friends of ours Maria and Nikki. Fern Fiber naturally hand-dyes all their yarns, using materials like indigo, madder, logwood, marigold and more! They have also made many fantastic connections to local farms, buying fiber straight from sheep farmers themselves and having it spun at local mills. We have long admired the great work these two creative ladies, but now we are even more excited to share two patterns we designed to show off the beautiful quality of their yarns.
We teamed up once again with our fantastic photographer Olivia Emmer of Olive & West Photography and captured our designs in a local treasure, Flora. Flora is an ethereal flower boutique, they specialize in special event floral arrangements, but their store front is full of house plants, dried flowers, gardening tools, planters, fresh cut flowers and more. The walls are adorned with botanical drawings and tons of hanging air plants which makes you feel as if you’re in a secret fairy hideout.
Waterrock was designed by Jennifer Sadler. It’s a vest to be worn alone or as a layering piece that features a split hem and a lot of mixed texture.
She used a light indigo, DK weight yarn for this project which shows off a lot of the color variation that makes indigo dyed yarns so interesting. You can read more details about the pattern on Ravelry.
Silvermine is a half-circle shawl designed by myself. It features small, delicate bobbles and uses a mix of knit and purl stitches to create light texture.
I used a fingering weight merino/silk blend yarn dyed with logwood for this textured shawl. The color is mostly lavender with a slight shade of silver. You can read more details about the pattern on Ravelry.
We have a coupon code for the weekend of the release, just use code “FERNFIBER” at checkout to recieve 25% off your purchase of one or both of these patterns. Discount code expires Sunday at midnight PST.
If you’re local to the Asheville area you can see some Fern Fiber yarns and these two pieces in person at Black Moutain Yarn Shop on March 25th during their trunk show!
